River Road Books, Fair Haven, will be hosting New York Times bestselling author Mary Kay Andrews at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 13, at Nauvoo Grill.
Andrews will be signing copies of her latest book, Spring Fever, a new escapist novel about small towns, old flames, and deep secrets. Andrews’ previous novels include Summer Rental, The Fixer Upper, Savannah Breeze and Blue Christmas.
A former newspaper journalist for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Andrew’s critically acclaimed Callahan Garrity mystery series has been nominated for numerous awards including the coveted Edgar award. Andrews, a self proclaimed “junker” (thrift store enthusiast), wife, mother, grandmother, teacher and cook, brings a touch of real life joy and sorrow to all her characters.

KEYPORT

Soap star and Red Bank Regional High School graduate Brian Gaskill is coming to work with the Garden State Players as education director and instructor at the group’s new summer theater camp.
Gaskill will host a Monday, June 4 fundraiser for the Garden State Players at the Trinity restaurant, 84 Broad St., Keyport. He will read poetry from his new original spoken-word poetry album, Make It Real.
Gaskill is best known for his roles on Guiding Light, As the World Turns, The Bold and the Beautiful, Port Charles, All My Children and Models, Inc.
He is currently starring in the Webisoap The Bay: Dark Side of the Bay, airing worldwide this summer.
Singer, songwriter and acoustic guitarist George Wirth also will perform. Attendees are welcome to bring original poetry for a chance to take the stage with Gaskill.
Tickets are $25 for the show only and $55 for a three-course dinner and the show. A free meet and greet after the show is included. Dinner seatings are at 6 and 6:30 p.m. and the show will start promptly at 7:30 p.m.

LONG BRANCH

State Senator Jennifer Beck, Assemblywoman Mary Pat Angelini and Assembly­woman Caroline Casagrande will discuss several topics including the 2013 budget and education reform during a town hall meeting from 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 6, at the Long Branch Senior Center.
There will be an opportunity for questions from the public during the session at the center, located at 85 Second Ave.
MIDDLETOWN

Monmouth County Historical Association will be celebrating the birthday of King George III from 1-4 p.m. Saturday, June 2, at Marlpit Hall (circa 1756), 137 Kings Highway.
Within the British Empire, including the American Colonies, celebration of the King’s birthday was one of the social events of the year. Visitors will be able to see how this day might have been celebrated in the home of Loyalists Edward and John Taylor. Historical re-enactors dressed as the Taylors will welcome the guests.
Musical entertainment of the period, played on the harpsichord and recorder, will be presented by The Practitioners of Musick with John Burkhalter of Princeton.
The earliest section of Marlpit Hall was built as a one-and-a-half story house in 1686 by James Grover Jr. John Taylor made substantial additions and alterations between 1740 – 1752. Members of the Grover and Taylor families were among the area’s leading politicians, farmers, and merchants.
Light refreshments will be served and admission is free.
RED BANK

The Red Bank Elks Lodge No. 233 will host its inaugural Elks Casino Night and Poker Tournament from 6 – 11 p.m. Saturday, June 23 at 40 West Front St.
Casino tickets are $50 per person and includes casino games, live music by DJ Joe McGrath and dinner. Attend­ees also will receive $100 in play money if purchased afterward, or $50 in play money if purchased after June 1. During the evening there will be an optional Texas Hold’em Tournament and tickets for this will be $50 per person. Both casino and tournament tickets can be purchased at the lodge or online at www.redbankelksorg.
Proceeds support the many benevolent activities of the lodge. Corporate sponsorship opportunities are also available.
RUMSON

The third annual Kids Triathlon for Bob Kelleher will be held at 7:45 a.m. Sunday, June 10, at Victory Park.
Kids, ages 9 to 14, will do a 150-yard swim, a 4-mile bike ride and a 1-mile run. Youngsters, ages 9 and younger, will be doing a 75-yard swim, a 2.25-mile bike ride and a half-mile run.
Pre-registration is available until June 1 and is $35. Registration after June 1 and on race day is $45.

The Kids Tri for Bob Kelleher race is being held in the memory of Kelleher, a Rumson resident who died unexpectedly in July 2009. He had been very active in sports, including participating in triathlons and coaching his son and borough children on recreation department teams, and was the captain in the Rumson First Aid Squad when he died.
Proceeds from the June 10 event will benefit the Rumson First Aid Squad and the borough’s recreation program.
