Area residents are being offered the chance to become part of the Monmouth County Park System’s Volunteer Trails Team.
The park system is offering an additional training workshop for prospective volunteers interested in joining this dedicated group. Open to those ages 16 and older, the workshop will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 17, at the Thompson Park Annex Training Center, 53 Longbridge Road.
Topics will include park system safety rules, tools and equipment and maintenance overview.
Once trained, trails team members are asked to assist with trail maintenance and construction one or two Saturday mornings a month.

LINCROFT
The public is invited at 6 p.m. Sunday, May 4, to a free viewing of “Shell Shocked,” a film depicting the horrific effects of violence against New Orleans children, at the Unitarian Meetinghouse, 1475 West Front St.
After the film’s viewing, director and producer John Richie will lead a discussion about gun violence, especially how it affects youth.

RED BANK
Navesink River Rowing (NRR) will be holding an open house from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 10, at the end of Maple Avenue.
The event, which is free and open to the public, features site tours, demonstrations on land, mini-lessons on the water and an opportunity to sign up for adult learn-to-row classes, boat use memberships or an array of popular summer youth programs.
Activities will run continuously during the open house at the NRR site at the end of Maple Avenue at the Navesink River.
NRR rowers of all ages and backgrounds will be on hand to share their experiences and answer questions.

Congregation B’nai Israel (CBI) will be holding a talk at 11:30 a.m. Sunday, May 4, by Dr. Avi Perry, a popular talk show host, Middle East expert and former professor at Northwestern University.
Perry will speak about security issues, both external and internal, that affect Israel’s viability and strategic direction in the Middle East. Open to the public, the lecture is being cosponsored by CBI, Monmouth Reform Temple and the Red Bank Chapter of Hadassah.
Perry is a veteran analyst of the Middle East and his views are frequently solicited in the media. Born in Israel, he served as an intelligence operative during and after Israel’s Six Day War. A former technology company vice president, Perry is the author of “72 Virgins,” a thriller about the covert war on Islamic terror, and several technical books. He is a frequent contributor to the Jerusalem Post, Israel National News and international publications. Perry hosts a weekly talk show on Paltalk News Network (PNN), featuring analysis of issues regarding the Arab-Israeli conflict and U.S. politics.
The presentation will take place in the social hall of CBI, 171 Ridge Road, and will be followed by a book signing. There is a $5 charge for nonmembers of CBI and Hadassah. Light refreshments will be served.

Family Resource Association (FRA) will be holding its annual
PossAbilities Walk from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 3, at Monmouth University’s Kessler Field on Lockwood Avenue, West Long Branch.
The 1-mile walk celebrates the abilities and accomplishment of children and adults in the community with special needs.
Those who would like to register, create a team, get pledges and win prizes may do so by going to www.firstgiving.com or at www.frcinc.org.
The fee for individuals who walk is $15 each and $30 for a whole family.
The event will be held rain or shine.
FRA is a nonprofit, located in Shrewsbury, which helps children, adolescents and people of all ages with “disAbilities” to reach their fullest potential.
