LITTLE SILVER
Sickles Market, 1 Harrison Ave., is holding a hand-tied floral designs workshop from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, March 15.
Attendees will learn how to design a display of cut bulb flowers using floral techniques from the Victorian era. The workshop will discuss a variety of shapes and sizes for hand-tied bouquets, and give some simple steps for creating floral collections at home.
The cost is $75 per person; $130 for two.

LINCROFT
This month’s Social Action Film at the Unitarian Meetinghouse, 1475 W. Front St., at 6 p.m. Sunday, Feb.16, will feature a 1971 film which began as a portrait of civil rights leader Fred Hampton and the Illinois Black Panther Party.
Halfway through the shoot, Hampton was killed by members of the Chicago Police Department while he slept. Only 21 years old, Hampton was an inspiration to a whole community. A lesser-known chapter in black history, his untimely death was a loss to the whole movement for civil and human rights. The event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.

MIDDLETOWN
The third annual First Pitch Pancake Breakfast will be held from 8 to 11:30 a.m. Sunday, March 9, at the VFW Post No. 2179 at 1 Veteran’s Drive, Port Monmouth.
The community event is hosted by the Rich Veth Diamond Club, a parent organization that works to support the Middletown High School North Lions baseball team.
Breakfast will include pancakes, sausage, breakfast potatoes, beverages and an array of fruit.
The cost is $10 for adults; $5 seniors and children 10 and younger. Tickets will be available at the door.
All proceeds from the benefit go to field improvements, team equipment, and training aids for the baseball team, whose players will be on hand to serve the breakfast.

OCEANPORT
The February Oceanport Garden Club meeting will be held at the Oceanport United Methodist Church, 50 Main St., at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 27.
The artistic theme is “A Perfect Cup of Tea,” and will show a design in a teacup with the underlay and background to scale.
Following the meeting and lunch, participants will make spring arrangements for the seniors in Oceanport Gardens and hand deliver them.

SPRING LAKE
Literacy Volunteers of Monmouth County (LVMC) will present “Lunch with Jack Ford,” author and legal analyst, from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 1, at Spring Lake Manor, 415 Highway 71.
Currently the CBS News legal analyst and an award-winning journalist, documentary producer, prominent trial attorney, author and teacher, Ford, a Spring Lake resident, will speak about his latest book, “The Walls of Jericho,” a novel about racial tensions in Mississippi during the civil rights era. Ford will be signing his book after the presentation and will donate a portion of the day’s sales to benefit LVMC’s adult and family literacy programs.
LVMC is a nonprofit, charitable organization registered with the State of New Jersey under Literacy Volunteers of America – Monmouth County. Trained volunteers provide tutoring and other educational services to adults to increase their literacy skills in either basic literacy or English as a second language (ESL).
