Elizabeth “Betty” Applegate, 85, of Hazlet, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, March 13 at Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank. She was born Elizabeth Humenaski on February 16, 1931 in Sugarnotch, Pennsylvania, where she grew up. In 1949, Betty moved to New York City, and in 1962, she settled in Hazlet. Before retiring in 1995, she worked as a banquet manager for Town & Country Inn in Keyport.

She was predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Martha (Gasser) Humenaski; her first husband, Edward Welch; her second husband, Harry Applegate; and her daughter-in-law, Eileen Connolly Welch. Betty is survived by her loving sons, Brian Welch and his wife Darlene of Hazlet, Barry Welch of Hazlet; her stepdaughter, Susan Connolly of Winter Haven, Florida; and her cherished grandchildren, Joseph and Stephanie Welch.

Family and friends are invited to visit on Thursday, March 17 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and Friday, March 18 from 8:45 to 9:30 a.m. at the Shore Point Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 3269 State Route 35 North, Hazlet. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday, March 18 at 10:15 a.m., at the Catholic Church of St. Ann, 311 Carr Avenue, Keansburg. Interment will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery, 100 Chapel Hill Rd., Middletown.
