Area History on Display at Shrewsbury Branch Library

SHREWSBURY –The rich history of Christ Episcopal Church in Shrewsbury is retold in a free, special exhibit at the Eastern Branch Library, 1001 Route 35, Shrewsbury, through the end of the month.
Christ Church in Shrewsbury has been in existence since 1702. The current church building that stands on the corner of Sycamore and Broad Street dates from 1769. This iconic structure, seen every day by thousands of travelers, is emblematic of the treasure trove of history in our very midst.
The parish, together with Dorn’s Classic Images, has created an exhibit entitled “Images of Christ Church Shrewsbury: Then and Now.” The exhibit consists of old photos (including the earliest from 1869), new photos and the church in art. There is also a special section called “Then and Now” that pairs old photos of the church with matching contemporary ones.
Artifacts related to the construction of the church will also be on display. The images in the exhibit depict the evolution of the church over time, but also suggest the growth and change in the surrounding community.
In addition, a large-scale model of the church, normally housed at the Shrewsbury Historical Society, will be on display in the library lobby throughout May.
The exhibit will run through Saturday, May 31, during regular library hours
For more information, please call the Library at 1-866-941-8188.
