Atlantic Highlands Mayor’s Ball to be Held Sept. 26

ATLANTIC HIGHLANDS – Mayor Frederick Rast III and the Atlantic Highlands Community Events Committee are preparing for the Seventh Annual Mayor’s Ball.
This year, the ball will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 26, at the Beacon Hill Country Club, 8 Beacon Hill Road.
In 2007, Rast launched The Community Events Committee as a non-political effort to raise funds for community organizations. The committee has donated more than $100,000 to local groups to date.
This year, the committee has decided to fund three groups, which do outstanding work in the community.
One of the groups is the Henry Hudson Regional School PTO, which used much of the funds they had collected for school projects to benefit the victims of Super Storm Sandy.  Now, the organization needs to replace those funds in order to complete the original projects.
The Atlantic Highlands L.E.O.s, which has requested funds to complete worthwhile projects in town, will also benefit from the event. One of the projects members are working on is hosting a “senior prom” for the borough’s mature citizens.
The third recipient is the Genevieve Hawley Foundation. The group gives scholarships to students who volunteer in the community. The foundation also supports other local philanthropic efforts throughout the year.
By popular demand, the community events committee is bringing back Tumbling Dice to provide casino gambling and to add to the fun, this year’s edition will have a horseracing game. Attendees can “own” a racehorse or they can “name” a race and compete against family and friends.
The committee hopes the community will support its efforts.
