MIDDLETOWN – Police are investigating an attempted break-in at the Red Store deli and grocery store.

Deputy Police Chief Stephen Dollinger said an unidentified subject tried to burglarize the store, 101 Navesink Ave., at approximately 4 a.m., on Thursday.

Officers had seen one individual running from the location, according to Dollinger. A department K-9 unit was sent to the scene but was unable to track the suspect.

The suspect or suspects did not gain entry and nothing was taken, Dollinger said.

The investigation is ongoing, according to the police.

The store and deli has been family-owned and has been continuously family-operated since the late 1950s.
