Richard R. Berling, 73, a lifelong resident of Middletown and most recently of Whiting, passed away July 8. Richard served in the 25th Infantry of the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Richard had a brilliant mind and was an engineer. Even in his spare time he would tinker with things. Richard belonged to the National Rifle Association and enjoyed shooting at the pistol range. He also had his private pilot’s license and flew his plane out of Allaire Airport. Richard also had a love of Corvettes and owned several over the years.
He is survived by his brother Robert Berling and his two sisters, Nancy Smith and Sandra Ketterer, along with his beloved cat Becker.
