RED BANK – It was an afternoon of pressing the flesh and chatting up potential voters for Newark Mayor and U.S. Senate candidate Cory Booker as he toured the borough’s downtown business district Friday.
Booker, the Democratic candidate for the late Frank Lautenberg’s seat, strolled along West Front and Broad streets for more than 90 minutes. Booker stopped to speak to shop owners, pedestrians and shoppers while flanked by his staff, locally elected Democrats, business owners, representatives from Red Bank RiverCenter and Visitors Center and Monmouth County Democratic chair Vin Gopal, Booker.
He posed for seemingly endless string of cellphone photos from enthusiastic and supportive members of the public.
Booker, who is running against Republican Steve Lonegan in the Oct. 16 special election, will be spending a good part of his weekend in Monmouth County, with appearances slated for Belmar, Long Branch and Asbury.
