New Jersey voters went to polls during a  very unusual Wednesday special election and picked Cory Booker as the successor to Frank Lautenberg, who died in June.
Voters chose Booker, a Democrat who is the mayor of Newark over Republican Steve Lonegan, the former mayor of Bogata, for U.S. Senate.
The race, which initially looked like a runaway for Booker tighten up as election day grew near.
It appeared late Wednesday that Booker had captured 55 percent of the vote to Lonegan’s 44 percent.
