Jean Brennan, of Middletown, died peacefully in the loving arms of her husband Sunday, September 11 after a long illness. She was 79. Born in New York City, Jean summered with her family in Highlands as a youngster and teenager where she met the love of her life, Timothy. They were married in 1954, the summer after her high school graduation.

The couple lived in Highlands for several years before purchasing a home in Hilton Park, Middletown, still the Brennan household at the time of her death. In August, they celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary with relatives and friends, recounting highlights during more than six decades of a happy marriage.

Jean was a charter member of the Highlands Auxiliary to Riverview Hospital at a time when auxiliary members wrapped bandages for use in the emergency and obstetrical units of the Red Bank facility.

Always active in PTAs during her daughters’ school years, she also enjoyed the numerous cruises and vacations she and her husband took with close friends from Hilton Park, Highlands and Atlantic Highlands.

In addition to her husband, Tim, Jean is survived by four daughters, Cathleen Bailey and her husband James of Leonardo, Patti Thomas of Avon, Connecticut, Laura Meahan of Middletown and Robin Lueddeke of Staten Island, New York. She is also survived by her six loving grandchildren, James Bailey, Jordan and Oliver Thomas, Alyxandra Meahan and TJ and Jared Lueddeke. She was predeceased by her parents, Daniel and Grace Vaughan; and a sister, Doris Vaughan.

Posten’s Funeral Home, Atlantic Highlands, was in charge of arrangements.
