LINCROFT – William G. Dalton of Interlaken and Joseph M. DiBella of Howell Township were sworn in as the newest members of the Brookdale Community College Board of Trustees at the board’s Nov. 21 annual meeting.
The new members replace Peter Kapsalas and Joan Raymond, whose terms expired on Oct. 31. Also during the annual meeting, Brian Butch of Avon-by-the-Sea was re-elected board chair and David Flaherty of Howell was elected vice chair.
Dalton is a retired vice president of corporate relations at the Clayton Companies, Wall Township, where he was responsible for all external affairs, including media, government, community and industry associations and crisis management. Prior to that, he was employed for more than 20 years by International Flavors and Fragrances, New York and Shrewsbury, where he served for nine years as the company’s vice president of global public affairs. He was formerly was assistant vice president, corporate relations, for the New Jersey Natural Gas Company and worked in public affairs and corporate relations for the Ciba-Geigy Corporation.
Dalton has an extensive background in international business issues and has served on many boards and committees of local, state, national and international organizations He served as mayor of Interlaken from 1988 to 1992. In the 1970s, he was special projects director for the Office of Senator Harrison A. Williams, Jr., and established a South Jersey District Office for the senator.
He is a member of the admission and enrollment committee at Monmouth University, where he earned his bachelor’s degree, and is an adjunct professor at Georgian Court University. Dalton is a graduate of the dual university program between Rutgers University and the University of Manchester, England, where he earned a master’s in city and regional planning with a specialization in regional management, environmental planning, policy and fiscal development.
“Having been born and raised in Monmouth County, I have always recognized Brookdale as a college that gives students the opportunity to receive an excellent education at a reasonable cost,” Dalton said. “I would like to use my business experience and background in academics to serve the college and expand opportunities for students seeking college degrees.”
DiBella is managing director and executive vice president of Conner Strong & Buckelew, the 33rd largest insurance consultancy and brokerage in the country. He is responsible for the employee benefits division, where he assists large employers in managing and designing insurance and benefit solutions for their employees. Prior to joining the firm in 2005, he was employed for 14 years in senior leadership positions by Horizon Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Jersey, where he led national and large account business.
A former mayor of Howell Township, he also served on the township council and board of education in Sayreville. In 2009, he was recognized by the Philadelphia Business Journal as one of the area’s top young professionals. He is a former member of the board of directors of Kimball Community Medical Center, Lakewood, and was named Humanitarian of the Year by the Kimball Foundation in 2006.
DiBella has a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from Seton Hall University.
“It is becoming very difficult for families to send their children to college,” DiBella said. “I am convinced that more people of all ages will be looking to the local community college where they live to get their next level of education. I hope to contribute to making sure that people in Monmouth County are able to get the best local education for the most affordable price.”
