LINCROFT – Brookdale Community College faculty will host an open information session from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday, July 28, for the college’s award-winning paralegal program.
The program, which prepares students for immediate job placement as a paralegal, was recently voted third best in the state in a New Jersey Law Journal survey.
The information session will provide an outline of the paralegal profession, including up-to-date salary and employment data. Instructors will also describe the more than 20 legal courses available in the program, including concentrations in corporate law, entertainment law and criminal procedure.
Attendees will be able to tour classrooms and facilities and meet with the program’s faculty, which includes three licensed attorneys.
“This program opens so many doors for our students,” said Michael Sullivan, assistant professor of legal studies at Brookdale. “They have gone on to work for law firms, banks, title companies, corporate insurance firms and government agencies, just to name a few.”
Paralegals, who support lawyers by conducting research, drafting documents and performing other related tasks, are becoming more valuable to today’s employers, Sullivan said. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of paralegals and legal assistants is projected to grow 17 percent by 2022, faster than the average for all occupations.
The information session will be held in Room 204 at Larrison Hall on Brookdale’s Lincroft campus. It is free and open to the public.

Established in the 1980’s, the paralegal studies program at Brookdale is one of 20 in New Jersey and one of 12 approved by the American Bar Association.
Earlier this year the program received the Bronze Award in the New Jersey Law Journal’s Best of 2013 survey. Brookdale was the only community college to be recognized.
Paralegal studies is part of the Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree program at Brookdale, as well as an academic certificate program for students with an existing degree.
