Brookdale to Host Pearl Harbor Commemoration

MIDDLETOWN – On Saturday, Dec. 10, at 11 a.m. Brookdale Community College’s Center for World War II Studies and Conflict Resolution will remember America’s veterans with a 70th Anniversary Commemoration of the attack on Pearl Harbor.
The community and, in particular, the families of Pearl Harbor and World War II veterans are invited to attend.
Two distinguished speakers will address the audience at the event: Ralph Jeffers, former Chairman of the NJ Pearl Harbor Survivors Association, a veteran crewman on the ***ITALSUSS Curtis,**ENDTALS, and Thomas Mahoney, former president of Chapter 2 NJ Pearl Harbor Survivors Association, also a veteran crewman on the ***ITALSUSS Curtis**ENDTALS.
Keynote speakers at the commemoration will be Col. Joseph E. Whitlock, deputy base commander, Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, and Capt. David J. Harrison, commander, U.S. Naval Weapons Station Earle.
Historical perspective will be provided by history professors Dr. Robert Mayer, Kean University, and Fred Fraterrigo, Brookdale Community College. A variety of historical displays and exhibits will be available for viewing beginning at 11 .m. Music of the era will played throughout the afternoon by keyboardist Barry Rosenzweig and soloist Gilda Healy from the group “Down Melody Lane.” Members of the Monmouth Battleground Chorus will also sing favorites from the World War II years.
The event is free. Parking is most convenient in lots six and seven.
