Jean Spencer Brown passed away at home on Wednesday, July 13. She was 93 years old and had resided in Fair Haven since 1954. Jean was born in Monmouth Beach in 1923 to Emma and Herbert Spencer and grew up in Montclair.
Jean graduated from Colby Junior College in New Hampshire and Katharine Gibbs School in New York City. After Katharine Gibbs, Jean worked for Standard Oil in Rockefeller Center, New York. As a child, Jean and her family spent summers in Salt Air, Fire Island; Monmouth Beach and Rumson. She and her family were members of the Seabright Beach Club for many years. Jean was an avid skier in college, but always loved the beach and the ocean best.
Jean was later a successful real estate agent and travel agent in Monmouth County. She liked to play bridge and was an active member of the Women’s Club of Red Bank and PEO. As a travel agent she literally crisscrossed the world.
She was predeceased by her parents and her sister, Louise Hudson also of Montclair. Jean is survived by her loving spouse of 44 years, Robert T. Brown; and her children, Nancy Francese and her husband Carl, Marjorie Fellows and her husband Bruce and Virginia Tassinari and her husband Dave; and her stepchildren, Barbara Jarmon, Robert T. Brown Jr. and Patti Roberts. Jean is also survived by her grandchildren, Mitchell Spencer Martin and his wife Erin, Katie Baronet and her husband Jeremy, John Fellows and his wife Lori, Jodi Tassinari, Christian Tassinari, Kyle Jarmon and Tanen Brown; and two great-grandchildren, Molly Elizabeth Martin and Miles Spencer Martin.
A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, July 30 at noon at St. James’ Episcopal Church, 300 Broadway, Long Branch.
