Southern Chamber to Hold Scholarship Fundraiser
LAKE COMO – The Southern Monmouth Chamber of Commerce Scholarship Fundraiser Barbecue will be held from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 15, at Bar Anticipation, 703 16th Ave.
The cost is $40 and includes barbecue-style food, two-hour open bar, silent auction, door prizes and live music.
The funds raised will help local high school seniors continue their education.

Business at the 19th Hole for Business Leaders’ Aug. Event
The Jersey Shore Business Leaders (JSBL), a professional business organization, will be holding its August meeting from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 20, at the Eagle Ridge Golf Course, 2 Augusta Drive, Lakewood.
The event will feature light hors d’oeuvres, business networking and a cash bar. Admission is $15.
A portion of the proceeds will benefit the LADACIN Network. Established in 1952, LADACIN, formerly known as Cerebral Palsy of Monmouth and Ocean counties, offers early intervention, child care, educational programs, adult day programs, physical, occupational and speech therapy, vocational training and supported employment, among many other services to 2,600 family in 11 facilities.

Monmouth U’s Urban Coast Institute Director Appointed to Nat’l. Research Committee
WEST LONG BRANCH – Monmouth University is pleased to announce that Urban Coast Institute (UCI) Director Tony MacDonald has been appointed to a National Research Council Committee. The Committee on U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Water Resources Science, Engineering, and Planning – Coastal Risk Reduction will provide advice to the Corps of Engineers on a range of scientific, engineering, and water resources planning issues.
The committee will address a variety of questions, including the following:
1. What coastal risk-reduction strategies have been used to reduce impacts of coastal flooding associated with storm surges, and what design standards have been used?
2. To what extent have these strategies proven effective in terms of economic return, protection of life safety, and minimizing environmental effects?
3. What are the regional and national implications of expanding the level of coastal storm surge protection?
4. How might risk-related principles increase the ability of coastal communities to prepare for coastal storms and surge, and adjust to changing coastal dynamics, such as prospects of sea level rise?
5. What general principles might be used to guide future investments in U.S. coastal risk reduction?
The committee includes leaders in the field of coastal planning and protection including representatives from Monmouth University, University of North Carolina, University of Maryland, Johns Hopkins University, Rutgers University, Oregon State University, University of Colorado, University of South Alabama, University of Minnesota, University of North Florida, and Deltares, The Netherlands.

Hamilton Jewelers Honored for Longevity, Charitable Work
RED BANK – Hamilton Jewelers was the recipient of a proclamation from Mayor Pasquale Menna and the borough marking 2013 as a year of celebration for the third-generation family-owned business.
In 2003, Hamilton opened its doors to the Red Bank community and continues to give back to the communities that have helped it thrive.
Hamilton works with a wide range of charities in Monmouth County including The Visiting Nurse Association of New Jersey, CASA of Monmouth County, The Two River Theater Company and Red Bank RiverCenter.
During Hamilton’s 100-year history, the family has always believed in supporting the surrounding communities and having a strong civic involvement. Along with supporting charities, Hamilton has an active involvement in Red Bank events such as Girls’ Night Out and The Ferrari Car Rally, which they believe is an essential part in maintaining a close relationship with the community.

Bradley Moore Joins Resources Real Estate as Sales Associate
