Ocean State Job Lot Supplies Saving Program for Educators Through Aug. 13
Ocean State Job Lot, a leading closeout retailer with 113 stores in New England, New York, and New Jersey, including Shrewsbury, has announced the return of its annual “Educator Partnership” savings program for teachers and educators throughout the Northeast.
Now though Wednesday, Aug. 13, teachers, educators, homeschoolers, school management and support personnel who are authorized to make purchases on behalf of their school will receive a 30 percent discount on eligible school supplies at any Job Lot store location. Proof of profession such as a pay stub and ID is required upon checkout.
Eligible items include a wide variety of brand name stationery products and art supplies, including writing instruments, paints and crayons, poster board, staplers and paper – a total of 924 products in 75 categories.
According to The Education Market Association’s 2013 Retail Market Awareness Study, public school teachers in the U.S. spent $1.6 billion of their own money on classroom supplies and gear during the 2012-13 school year. The national average amount of spending per teacher surveyed is almost $500 out of pocket, with nearly $150 for school supplies and $138 on “other classroom supplies.” Ten percent reported spending $1,000 or more out of pocket.

Middletown Conducting Business Survey
MIDDLETOWN – The township’s Economic Development Committee wants to hear from business owners about what it’s like to do business here.
“We’re conducting a survey to find out directly from business owners what’s working, where the challenges lie, and what the governing body could do to improve the business environment in town,” said Gerry Scharfenberger, a member of the Township Committee and the Economic Development Committee. “We’re looking forward to presenting the final data to the Township Committee later this year.”
The Economic Development Committee, an advisory body formed by the Township Committee, is charged with facilitating the creation of a business-friendly environment that promotes economic growth, job development and expansion of the commercial tax base. The survey is one of several initiatives the committee has undertaken to help make Middletown more business friendly.Other initiatives include holding open forums on economic development and participation in business networking events.
Surveys have been mailed to local businesses. A copy can also be downloaded from the township website at www.middleownnj.org.
