Golden Goose Jewelers to Open in Rumson
RUMSON – You’ve heard of the Phoenix rising out of the ashes?  It may be a bird of a different color, but a Golden Goose is about to rise from a Tinker’s Tools.
When Tony Goltsch decided to open his new jewelry store 200 feet from where he managed the recently closed Goldtinker Rumson, he knew that location was the only thing that would change.
“Service, service, service was how I worked for 13 years at Goldtinker, and it’s how the Golden Goose will run,” Goltsch said. “The customer comes first.”
He knew he wanted to keep the new store in downtown Rumson, as his first priority was continuing to serve his long-term, loyal customers. Finding the right space, however, was a challenge.
With a little help from building owner Rumson Management, and lots of cooperation from Mary Louise Van Der Wilden, owner of Le Papillon, a deal was made. The two storeowners agreed to share the prime space at 7 West River Road, realizing that a high-end clothing/accessory store and fine jewelry store complement each other. The renovations began.
The Golden Goose sparkles with a fresh new color scheme and gorgeous tiled floors. The original tin ceiling was uncovered during the process and restored to its former beauty. Comfortable seating, the warmth of natural light flooding the space and the familiar faces of staff members are bound to make the customer’s experience rewarding.
“We’re excited to have this enviable corner spot and have such an elegant neighbor in Le Papillon” Goltsch said.
The building’s history has a tradition of neighboring businesses. “Back in the day” you could shop at Anderson’s Electric, get your hair done at Ella Gaynor’s beauty shop, or stop for a sandwich and ice cream soda at Pat’s Luncheonette. For a time the building even housed the Rumson Post Office.
Goltsch first came to Rumson in 2001 at age 20 when he was hired as a sales associate by Penny Viau, former owner of Goldtinker. As the store manager for 10 ½ years, he developed a loyal and satisfied customer base.
When Viau decided to retire and move to Florida, his decision to stay and continue to serve the area was an easy one. “I really cut my teeth in the jewelry business at Goldtinker and am so grateful to Penny for the opportunity,” Goltsch said.
One of Goltsch’s most memorable moments from his years at Goldtinker was the time he delivered a cherished, repaired ring to a busy CEO just as she was climbing into her airport limousine to leave on an extended vacation.
“I personally drove the ring to her house because she was on her way out of town and couldn’t get by the store,” he said. “I knew she would want it on her vacation.”
That’s the kind of dedicated service that will continue at Golden Goose.
Goltsch’s passion for the jewelry business has not waned. He looks forward to continuing to serve his customers who share his love of jewelry, whether it’s creating custom pieces to mark special occasions, or looking for those pieces that represent the latest in jewelry style and trends.
“As jewelers, we’re there for the memorable moments of their lives – it’s a tradition I hope to carry on for many more years in Rumson,” he said.
