NEWARK – The Christian Brothers Academy ice hockey team was named an NJSIAA cochampion on Sunday after a 4-4 tie with Morristown-Beard High School at Prudential Center.
The Colts, who last reached the state final in 2012, were down 4-1 in the first period before climbing all the way to tie the game at 4 all and send it to overtime.
After getting behind early, Anthony Cusanelli, Bobby Hampton, and Derek Contessa scored within 2 minutes of each other to draw CBA back to a tie game.
It was the first co-championship in New Jersey since 1989.
Christian Winters opened the game with a goal to put CBA up, 1-0, less than 2 minutes into the game before Morristown-Beard came flying back to put up four in the first period.
