It’s time for the Great Spring Perennial Plant Swap, Saturday, April 23 at Deep Cut Gardens, Middletown. Plants must be dropped off between 8:30 and 10 a.m., and plant selection takes place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Bring plants in 1-quart, 1-gallon or 2-gallon containers and take home the same size and number of plants. Please label all plants. Herb and vegetable seedlings may also be exchanged. Invasive plants will not be accepted. Participation is free.
Friday, May 6 is National Public Gardens Day, a nationwide celebration of the role of botanical gardens and arboreta in promoting environmental stewardship, conservation, green spaces and education.
Stop by Deep Cut Gardens, 152 Red Hill Road, Middletown, from 2 to 8 p.m. and join a guided tour or explore the gardens on your own, get answers to your garden questions and earth-friendly garden tips, sit in on a container gardening demonstration and pick up some seeds to plant at home. All activities are free.
Are you ready to get your hands dirty? It’s time to think about your gardens and come to the Garden Club of Fair Haven’s Annual Plant Sale, Friday, May 6 from 4 to 7 p.m. and Saturday, May 7, 9 a.m. to noon at the Fair Haven Firehouse grounds on River Road. Sale is rain or shine. Plants offered for sale include perennials, many grown by garden club members, specialties and boutique items such as flowering shrubs, herbs, hanging baskets and decorative planters.
On Wednesday, June 1, Navesink Garden Club will sponsor trip to Wave Hill, a public garden and cultural center in the Riverdale section of the Bronx. The admission price of $95 will include bus fare, access to the Glyndor Gallery, Wave Hill House and Cafe, Perkins Visitor Center and Shop, a one-hour guided garden tour, and a boxed lunch on the beautiful terrace.
