Michael Joseph Conlin Jr., 81, of Union Beach, passed away peacefully
surrounded by his loving family at home on Friday, October 2. Michael was
born on October 31, 1933 in Jersey City where he grew up. On September
22, 1956, Michael and his wife, Loretta, were married and began their life
together in Jersey City, where they also raised their family. In 2002, they
settled in Union Beach.
Michael served his country with the United States Navy during the
Korean Conflict. During his Naval service, he was the recipient of the Valor
Award and also a Sportsman-like Driving Certificate. After his service in
the military, Michael worked as a Hudson County Sheriff’s Officer for
many years and was currently retired.
He was a member of both the Emerald Society with the Jersey City
Police Department and the Emerald Society of Monmouth County.
Michael was also a life member of the Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge #4,
a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, and the Knights of
Columbus of Jersey City.
He was predeceased by his parents, Margaret (Kennedy) and Michael
J. Conlin Sr.; his sister, Margaret Gnecco and her husband, Arthur; and his
brother, Patrick Conlin. Michael is survived by his beloved and devoted
wife of 59 years, Loretta (Olenhaus) Conlin; his loving children, Karen
Conlin of Elkton, Md., and Michael Conlin and his wife Regina of Middle –
town; his dear siblings, Madeline Brignola and her husband Steven, John
Conlin and his wife Mary, Edward Conlin and Patricia Lawlor; and his sister-
in-law, Ann Conlin. Michael is also survived by his cherished grandchildren,
Joseph Wesley, Kerri Ann Lepis, Barbara Conlin and Alora Lynn
Conlin; and his adored great grandson, Ayden Taylor. He will be sadly
missed, but never forgotten.
Visitation was held on Monday, October 5 and Tuesday, October 6 at the
Shore Point Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Hazlet. A Mass of
Christian Burial was offered on Tuesday, October 6 at St. Mary’s Chapel,
Middletown. Interment followed at Brigadier General William C. Doyle
Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, Wrighstown. In lieu of flowers, donations in
memory of Michael can be made to Mike Conlin, care of Pop Conlin’s 2016
