William “Bill” D. Costa, “Little Sonny”, 92, of Hazlet, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 21 at Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank. Bill was born on December 23, 1922 in Hackensack where he grew up. In 1957, he and his wife, Tina, settled in Hazlet to raise their family. Bill worked as an airplane inspector for Wright Aeronautical Corporation. He then joined the United States Army, where he proudly served as a sergeant in the Medical Core in England, during World War II. Before retiring in 1988, Bill worked as the superintendent of the Data Processing Department for Continental Insurance Company. He was also a communicant, usher, and counter of weekly offerings for St. Benedict Roman Catholic Church in Holmdel. Bill was an avid sports fan. His favorite teams were the New York Yankees and the New York Giants.

He was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Coletta (Toriello) Costa; his son, Robert Costa; his brother, Joseph A. Costa; and his grandson, James Cena. Bill is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Tina (Galesi) Costa; his loving children, William J. Costa of East Brunswick, Patricia A. Bishop and her husband John of Manahawkin, Maryanne Costa-Cena of Hazlet and Christopher Costa of Hazlet; his cherished grandchildren, Amanda Panick and her husband Dave, Billy Costa, Carina Cena; along with his adored great granddaughter, Alyson Panick. He will be sadly missed, but never forgotten.

Visitation was held on Monday, August 24 and Tuesday, August 25 at the Shore Point Funeral Home, Hazlet. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered on Tuesday, August 25 at St. Benedict Roman Catholic Church, Holmdel. In respect of Bill’s wishes, he was privately cremated.
