Children in the Two River area are some of the best dressed around. Crew Cuts, Gucci, Burberry, Marc Jacobs, Paper Denim, Diane Von Furstenberg for Gap—the labels available for kids today (and what many of the local tots don) are as cool and stylish as they are for adults.
Now, their wardrobes are about to become even more fashionable. From renowned fashion designer Oscar de la Renta comes a clothing line for children that’s as pretty and polished as his signature label for women. The debut collection, Spring/Summer 2012, launched last month.
The designs are reminiscent of the joys of childhood: party dresses in light voile fabric lined with tulle, playtime floral jumpsuits and easy jersey dresses for girls; darling seersucker rompers, tailored blazers and everyday sport polos for boys. Sizes range from layette (three to 18 months) to age 14.
At the helm of the new venture is Catherine Monteiro de Barros, formerly the founder and designer of luxury children’s line Papo d’Anjo. She’s been tapped as vice president of design for childrenswear, where she’s beautifully maintained de la Renta’s signature aesthetic, only with playtime (as opposed to the red carpet) in mind. Sybil Heine is the brand’s director of sales and a resident of Locust.
The collection is sold at select retailers, Oscardelarenta.com and via in-home trunk shows, with one scheduled locally in Rumson the first week of May. For more information about attending the Rumson trunk show email childrenswear@odlr.com.
