CAMDEN – Seven of eight boats from Christian Brothers Academy reached the finals in last Saturday’s Garden State Scholastic Rowing Championships.
Five CBA boats took medals, three of which were state championships, earned on the Cooper River. Almost 40 high schools competed with more than 280 boats.
Rowers from Rumson-Fair Haven regional High School and Ranney School also participated with RFH’s men’s junior 4X team taking a third with Brendan Edwards, Sheridan Camarata, Daniel Shebell and Ben Cooper.
The past weekend’s success bodes well for the Colts and their head coach Scott Belford as they took home three golds, a silver and a bronze at the competition.
“The weather this spring has been dreadful and a lot of teams have struggled to find water time,” Belford said. “That led to a lot of uncertainty going into the state championships. We couldn’t have been more pleased with the results.”
