RED BANK – Carlo’s Bakery of TV’s “Cake Boss” fame opened on Broad Street Monday afternoon to cheers and much fanfare.
After workers put the finishing touches on the large bakery at 86 Broad St. and staffed check to ensure baked goods were appropriately labeled and arranged in shiny glass cases, Buddy Valastro walked out and declared his newest shop open.
The crowd, which stretched several deep down the sidewalk to nearby St. James R.C. Church, cheered as Valastro, Mayor Pasquale Menna and Bruno Battalglia, a big fan of the show who attended as part of a Make-A-Wish Foundation experience, used giant sheers to cut the red ribbon stretched across the front  door. Dozens of cameras flashed. Many in the excited crowd took photos with their cellphones.
Members of the Valastro family were all smiles, including Buddy’s, wife Lisa, his four sisters and his mother, who are all familiar to viewer of the TV show “Cake Boss” on the TLC Network.
