George A. Darragh Jr., 87, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Feb. 7 at River view Medical Center. He was born at Christ Hospital in Jersey City to the late George A. Darragh Sr. and Mildred E. Darragh. He was a graduate of Markham Place Elementary School, Red Bank High School (class of 1945), received his bachelor of science from Monmouth College and master’s in science from St. Mary’s College in Minnesota.

He was a lifetime resident of Little Silver. Before college George owned and operated his own dental laboratory in Freehold and proudly served in the US Army National Guard. He then began his educational career by teaching marine biology at Monmouth Regional High School for 30 years.

He was a lifetime member of the Little Silver Fire Department and one of the original charter members of the First Aid Squad where he taught CPR all throughout Monmouth County for many years.

He served Little Silver as an elected of ficial on the Borough Council as council president and finished out his council term as mayor in 1994. He served on many boards as well as being past president of the Board of Health, a repre- sentative for the waterfront committee, a member of the local Ethics Board and was instrumental in helping develop both the Sickles farm project as well as Santelli Waterfront boat dock and park.

George is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Phyllis A. Myatt Darragh of Little Silver; and his beloved son, Scott A. Darragh and his fiancé Pilar Naveo of Melrose, Massachusetts.
