Milagros “Millie” (Colome) dePeyret, a longtime resident of Clifton, passed away peacefully Thursday, October 27 at St. Joseph’s hospital in Paterson. Millie, as she was known by her friends and family, was born in Havana, Cuba, on October 1, 1923. She lived in Cuba for most of her childhood years. She emigrated to the US in 1955.

She studied and earned a beautician license, practicing and eventually owning her own beauty salon in New York City for many years catering to celebrities on the Upper East Side. The original “fashionista” in her own right, shopping was just one of her many passions.

Millie loved being in the company of her family, especially her three sisters. Much of her time was spent bringing joy and love to all that knew her. Her hobbies were dressing up and going out, playing cards as well as traveling, socializing, watching her sister’s cook and dancing.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Joseph dePeyret; and her sister, Angela Zeigler also of Red Bank and Clifton; many nieces and nephews, Rosa Bacque, Maria Johnson, Aleida Bueno, Glen Quesada, Ali Wilharm and Jerry Brager; and many grandnieces and grandnephews all of which brought joy to her life.

John Day Funeral Home, Red Bank, was in charge of arrangements. Please visit Millie’s memorial website at www.johnedayfuneralhome.com.
