Robert Francis Dubuss, 80, of Rumson, passed away at home on Sunday, September 13. Robert was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Francis and Catherine (O’Hehir) Dubuss. He earned his bachelor of science in business from Pace University, class of 1964. He honorably served our country from 1953 to 1956 in the US Marine Corps as part of an international peace-keeping effort in Korea and Japan. Robert was a longtime communicant of Holy Cross R.C. Church in Rumson.

Robert worked for The Dreyfus Corporation, an investment manager, for nearly 38 years, playing a key role in the creation of the tax exempt mutual fund industry. Through his work with Congress and the IRS, Robert helped bring about 1976 legislation that allowed mutual fund shareholders access to tax-exempt income, leading to the extraordinary growth of tax exempt mutual funds. He played a major role in establishing Dreyfus’ New York Tax Exempt Bond Fund and California Tax Exempt Bond Fund.

A humble, caring and generous man, Robert touched many lives through his commitment to his family and to charity, including his support of veterans and Native Americans. A beneficiary of the G.I. Bill, Robert understood the transformative power of education and put more than a dozen children and grandchildren through college. He will be remembered for his sense of humor and his passion for sports, particularly the New York Jets, the New York Mets and horse racing.

Robert was predeceased by his parents.

He is survived by his loving wife of 24 years, Minerva Gonzalez Dubuss; his children, Robert F. Jr and his wife Beth of Floral Park, N.Y., Noah F. of Red Bank, Seamus of Manhattan, Norma Walling of Middletown, Catherine Bondick and her husband Dan of High Point, N.C., Cynthia Joyce and her husband Joe of Little Silver, Mary Kate Kim and her husband Minki of Astoria, N.Y., and Fiona Stauffer and her husband Don of Rochester, N.Y.; his stepchildren, Joseph Gonzalez and wife Nancy of Howell and JoAnn Roman and her husband Anthony of Jackson; 13 grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; nine great- grandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren; and his siblings, Frank Dubuss and his wife Bernadette of Florida and Winifred Magnuson and her husband George of New York.

Visitation was held on Wednesday, September 16 at the John E. Day Funeral Home, Red Bank. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, September 17 at 10:30 a.m. at The Church of the Precious Blood, 72 Riverdale Ave., Monmouth Beach. Burial will follow at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery in Freehold.
