NEPTUNE – Officials at the K. Hovnanian Children’s Hospital at Jersey Shore University Medical Center have announced a $750,000 donation from the Earle family of Monmouth County toward the hospital’s pediatric expansion.
The gift, donated in honor of their parents Walter and Marianne Earle, supports The Next Step, a hospital campaign focused on expanding services and space for Kids, Cardiac and Cancer.
The Earle family’s contribution directly supports an enhanced acute care pediatric unit in the hospital’s Ackerman Pavilion. The redesigned space includes 14 private rooms and features a fun, fresh aesthetic inspired by life at the shore that creates a more healing environment. The area also features an interactive playroom, a spacious family area and an additional procedure room.

“This new space is sophisticated, gives families more privacy and enables our physicians and nurses to care for children in a modern, healing environment as we continue to grow for the future,” said Dr. Steven Kairys, co-medical director, K. Hovnanian Children’s Hospital.
“When we discussed what we wanted to support in our community, we couldn’t think of a better place to invest in than K. Hovnanian Children’s Hospital. We have a large family with many children, and having the best care close to home is important to us,” says Walter (Rob) Earle II, president, Earle Asphalt Co., and newly elected member of the Foundation Board at Jersey Shore University Medical Center. Rob also recently was appointed chairman of The Next Step Campaign’s Kid’s Phase.
Since 2007, K. Hovnanian Children’s Hospital has experienced tremendous growth in the demand for pediatric services. The $5 million pediatric expansion project will enable the hospital to continue providing the most advanced health services for the area’s sickest children close to home. The expansion includes the addition of 14 private rooms for the pediatric unit for a total of 44 beds, an expansion of the pediatric intensive care unit, and a new multi-disciplinary outpatient center with more than 12 specialty care programs. K. Hovnanian Children’s Hospital has the most pediatric subspecialists in the region providing emergency, surgical and neonatal and pediatric intensive care.
