Ernest Erskine, 70, of Holmdel, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family and friends on Thursday, November 2 at Overlook Hospital in Summit. He fought a courageous 10-year battle with Multiple Myeloma. Ernest was born in Newark, raised in Springfield and moved Holmdel in 1986 with his wife of 43 years, Carole.
Ernest was a decorated Vietnam veteran serving in the US Army. He received a Purple Heart and Bronze Starfor his service. Ernest retired from the Rutgers physics department where he worked for 25 years in 2014. He enjoyed boating and fishing with his family and friends.
He was predeceased by his mother, Caroline; father Edwin; and brother, Robert. He is survived by his wife Carole; son, Michael and wife Kelley; his daughter, Andrea and husband Joseph Dolce; and two grandchildren, Aubrey and Nicholas. Additionally, he is survived by his brother, Edwin Erskine; and cousins, Christopher Tauber and Diane Zsombik.
He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Ernest will be buried with full military honors at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his name to the Wounded Warriors Project.
