A Vietnamese national, who formerly lived in the Port Monmouth section of Middletown, was sentenced Friday in Superior Court in Ocean County to 20 years in state prison for operating what law enforcement authorities called the largest indoor marijuana growing operation ever taken down by police in this state, according to the state’s Office of the Attorney General.
The two-decade sentence for Tan Ahn Dang, 39, includes 10 years of parole ineligibility.
Dang pleaded guilty on April 15 to a first degree charge of being the leader of a narcotics trafficking network, admitting he ran an international syndicate that was growing a $10 million crop of marijuana – involving thousands of plants – inside five rental houses around the state. The homes were located in Monroe, Millstone, Old Bridge, Manalapan and Barnegat.
