Garden Club of Fair Haven Celebrates 60 Years

514

On Wednesday, October 5th, at Bingham Hall in Rumson, the Garden Club of Fair Haven celebrated their 60th Anniversary. It was a stellar day weather-wise and arriving members were served punch in the Bingham Hall garden, then proceeded inside for a luncheon.  Among the guests were honorary members and past presidents Harriet Gabel and Betty Schulte.  Inside Bingham Hall, the Awards committee displayed pictures from past civic projects and other club memorabilia such as silver platters and bowls awarded to the club, and programs from our many flower shows over the years.  After the regular meeting, which included design judging of fall arrangements and luncheon trays, a huge bouquet made up of flowers and greenery from members’ gardens was presented to Janet Harris in recognition of her 60 years of membership.  Hetty Tegen, club Historian, read a brief synopsis of the club’s inception, purpose, and history.  Lynda Griffith, club Program Chair, then read some funny, nostalgic, and inspiring memories that club members had provided.  President Cassy Abel cut the anniversary cake. All attending agreed the day was a beautiful tribute to all the Garden Club of Fair Haven has accomplished in the past sixty years.
