Gerhold, Mildred, Age: 99, Shrewsbury

662

Mildred Gerhold, 99, of Shrewsbury, passed peacefully in her home on Wednesday, August 3. She was born Mildred Elizabeth Frank in Bronx, New York, to Joseph and Wilhelmina (née Hegner) Frank. Mildred graduated from Hunter College, New York City. She met and married her beloved husband of 64 years, Robert A. Gerhold, and moved with him to Shrewsbury, where she lived for 65 years.

They were longtime involved members of Holy Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church of Red Bank where Mildred was a Sunday school teacher for many years along with being an active participant in WELCA as well as the Dorcas Circle and the quilters’ group. Mildred also enjoyed her many friends as part of activities with the Shrewsbury Senior Homesteaders in her home town.

In the 1970s and ‘80s into the ‘90s she was employed as a bookkeeper for three different area building companies. During this time she and Robert also enjoyed several trips to Europe, Greece, and the Copper Canyon in Mexico.

Mildred was a devoted wife and mother and her biggest joy was time spent with her four wonderful grandchildren and two amazing great grandchildren. She leaves a legacy of longevity with the clear lesson that “nutrition should be your medicine.”

Her family very much appreciates the care and devotion given Mildred in her last few years by her caregivers from At Home Eldercare (Mimi, Asel, Maria, and Manu., as well as Ona, Grace and Lana – special thanks and admiration). Also appreciated are Meals on Wheels through Interfaith Neighbors and their dedicated volunteers and, most recently, the physical therapists from Fox Therapy, Meridian at Home Wound Management team and Meridian Hospice.

Mildred was predeceased by her beloved husband, Robert; her parents; and her sister, Dorothy. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Doug Alt of Wanamassa; and her son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Bette Gerhold of Houston, Texas. Mildred was also dearly loved by her granddaughters, Kimberly (Mott) Mischler and husband Brad of St. Paul, Minnesota, and Melissa Gerhold; and two grandsons, Kevin Gerhold of Houston, Texas, and Bryan Gerhold of Austin, Texas. Also surviving are a great-granddaughter, Brooke Mischler, and a great-grandson, Wade Mischler, both of St. Paul, Minnesota.

Honoring Mildred’s wishes, there will be a private graveside service for immediate family with a memorial celebration of her life at Holy Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Red Bank on a future date. The John E Day Funeral Home Red Bank has been entrusted with her arrangement. Donations may be made in Mildred’s memory to Holy Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 150 River Road, Red Bank, NJ. 07701. Please visit Mildred’s memorial website at www.johnedayfuneralhome.com.
