HOLMDEL – The Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd has been a long-time supporter of the Kitchen at St. Mark’s, Inc., a nonprofit group providing food for needy families in the Bayshore area.
The Kitchen at St. Mark’s, Inc. is a regular project for the Social Ministry Committee of Good Shepherd. This year, the congregational council of the church elected to send an additional year-end gift of $1,000 to help the kitchen get started in its new Keyport location.

“Good Shepherd has always been faithful in the support of local ministries which provide assistance to persons or families in need in our area,” said the Rev. John Elstad, pastor of The Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd.
Good Shepherd has given food and financial assistance to St. Mark’s, Inc. over the past 15 years. The church began providing a hot meal once each month in 1996; started delivering food, collected monthly by the congregation in 2008; and has been sending monthly financial help since 2007.
The kitchen, which was formerly located in Keansburg, has moved a new facility at the Community Church in Keyport, where it serves a hot meal to the needy three times each week at 11:30 a.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
Fittingly, the motto of the Community Church is “We feed people – body and soul.“
