Gottuso, Dorothy, Age: 94, Shrewsbury

711

Dorothy Gottuso, 94, of Shrewsbury, passed away on Friday, December 30. Dorothy was born in Widnes, England, to Sarah Jane Pugh and John Roberts. Upon first immigrating to the United States as a “war bride,” she lived in Utica, New York. Later, she moved to Denville, where she worked as a municipal court clerk and then retired to Manchester.

Dorothy had many passions. She loved to walk, watch birds and knit, making sweaters for family and friends and lap blankets for the elderly. A lifelong Anglophile, Dorothy traveled yearly to her beloved England to visit relatives and friends. She adored games (especially bridge) and shared this passion with her children and grandchildren. Later in life, she loved cruising with her dear companion, the late John Jones. Mostly, she enjoyed being with family and imbued them with her values, including caring for and giving to others. She made history come alive through her stories of life in England during World War II.

Dorothy was predeceased by her loving husband, Charles Gottuso; and her son, Dr. Michael A. Gottuso. Surviving are her two children, Richard C. Gottuso and his wife Suzanne, of Fair Haven and Carol G. Jaenicke, and her husband Larson, of Davidson, North Carolina. Also surviving are the joys of her life, her grandchildren: Dr. Matthew Jaenicke and his wife, Gwen, of Charleston, South Carolina, Graham Jaenicke, of Atlanta, Georgia, Sam Gottuso and Jacqueline Gottuso, of Fair Haven and Michael T. Gottuso, of Wappinger Falls, New York. The family wishes to thank Brandywine Assisted Living and Grace Hospice for their compassion in caring for Dorothy. A celebration of her life will be held at a later time.

All arrangements have been entrusted to the John E. Day Funeral Home, Red Bank. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in Dorothy’s memory to the Monmouth Country Society for Prevention of Cruelty of Animals (SPCA), 260 Wall Street, Eatontown, NJ 07724.
