Guoba, Marie, Newark

599

Marie Guoba, a proud, longtime resident of the Ironbound section of Newark, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her adoring family, on Wednesday, March 9.

She was also loved and cared for by the many compassionate aides at Sunrise Assisted Living of Lincroft, where she resided for almost two years.

Marie was a religious woman who gave selflessly to others. No job was ever too big or too difficult for her. She was an active member of the Hennessey-Baione Post 712 Ladies Auxiliary and the Knights of Lithuania C-29 in Newark.

Cooking and entertaining for her family and friends was her passion. Her home was always open to all for dinners and celebrations.

She was a woman ahead of her times, starting her own catering company in the 1950s while raising her family with her husband of 37 years.

Marie’s sharp wit and great sense of humor brought many laughs to the dinner table and will continue to do so for years to come.

She was predeceased by her husband, Pius (Pete). Marie is survived by her devoted family: a son, Pius (Peter) Guoba and his wife Sheryll, two daughters, Bernadette Ruane and her husband Brian, and Diane Pettineo and her husband Bruce; five loving grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was a devoted mother and grandmother and she will be missed dearly.
