RUMSON – Rumson Fair Haven’s Jack Herrmann capped off a successful career for the Rumson-Fair Haven boy’s basketball team by helping the Bulldogs win nine of their last 11 games and finishing the season with an overall record of 18-11.
Herrmann also scored his 1,000th point during a matchup March 1 against American History High School from Newark. The last player to join the 1,000-point club at RFH was Jay Dooley, who graduated in 1998. Herrmann ended up finishing his career at RFH with 1,084 points and has drawn interest from many Division II and III schools.
Herrmann also played a major role for the Bulldogs during the Central Jersey Group II playoffs, helping the Bulldogs reach the championship game against Matawan before losing a hard-fought 67-54 battle against the Huskies. Herrmann had a solid game for the Bulldogs with 21 points. The Bulldogs reached the CJ Group II championship game by beating Point Boro, Lakewood and Willingboro.
“Congratulations to the Matawan team, but I am more proud of my teammates,” Herrmann said. “We really came together and I will never forget the run we had. It was emotional after the game being the last one for us seniors, but it is definitely a memory I will always cherish.”
This season, Herrmann averaged 18.4 points and 2.7 assists per game. Herrmann was also one of the Bulldogs top players on defense pulling down 9.4 rebounds per game. Herrmann, a very versatile player for the Bulldogs, could play any position on the floor.
During a game last season, Herrmann tied the school record with 41 points against the Raritan Rockets. Herrmann had no idea he had tied the school record and spent most of the fourth quarter passing to his teammates rather than scoring more points.
Herrmann played on Friday, March 28, in the Shore Basketball Association Senior All-Star Game in front of a packed house at Wall High School. He finished the game with 10 points to help lead the West All-Stars to an impressive 116-104 win over the East All-Stars.
“It was an honor to play in the All-Star game and a lot of fun,” Herrmann said. “The athletic talent on both teams was incredible.”
