HIGHLANDS – The borough is seeking architectural bids for the design of a 15,000-square-foot Borough Hall to replace the old one severely damaged by flooding in 2012’s Super Storm Sandy.
The bids are due Friday, April 8. More than 20 firms attended a mandatory preliminary meeting for bidders, said Borough Administrator Tim Hill.
A site being considered for Borough Hall is on Route 36 between Valley Avenue and Miller Street. But the borough is not necessarily committed to that site, Hill said.
The new Borough Hall would accommodate the same entities as the old facility, which sits at 171 Bay Ave – borough offices, police, the court/meeting room and First Aid Squad.
In the aftermath of Sandy, the entities are making do at different sites – administrative offices in a modular unit at 42 Shore Drive and the Police at 27 Shore Drive. Town meetings now are held at the Robert D. Wilson Memorial Community Center at 22 Snug Harbor Drive, while the ambulances are at the old Borough Hall site.
