HIGHLANDS – The Highlands Business Partnership will present its the 11th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 23, with nearly 100 marching units.
Bagpipers, marching bands, Irish dancers and decorated floats will line up to march in the parade dedicated this year to first responders in great appreciation for their heroic efforts during Super Storm Sandy.
“We are proud of our hometown heroes,” said Jay Cosgrove, the partnership’s vice president.
Council President and firefighter Rebecca Kane will lead the parade as the 2013 Grand Marshal. She will be joined by Deputy Grand Marshal David “Bear” Parker, the borough’s office of emergency management coordinator.
The parade will begin at Huddy Park with hundreds scheduled to march along a 1-mile stretch of Bay Avenue. The Highlands Business Partnership will host the annual competition of floats. The parade will feature entertainers along with many marchers representing the military, political, civic, church, environmental, community and veterans organizations. There will be cheerleaders, marching band and pipe bands.
Green balloons and bows will decorate participating businesses along the parade route. A VIP grandstand for dignitaries will be located in front of borough hall at 171 Bay Ave.
The Highlands Business Partnership’s Pot of Gold 50/50 Raffle drawing will be held at 171 Bay Avenue at 3 p.m.
