Lunch Break, located on Drs. James Parker Boulevard, serves hot meals 6 days per week – 56,000 meals served in 2012 – and delivers meals to shut-ins. It also has a food pantry that saw 7,600 pickups last year, a clothing shop that registered 8,900 pickups in 2012 and sponsors a variety of special programs throughout the year.
Jackson has volunteered at Lunch Break for more than 25 years. Most mornings, he can be found at Lunch Break at 7:30 a.m. The building’s 200-person capacity means that a lot of food is required so Jackson checks with the cook and Executive Director Gwendolyn Love each day to determine special food needs for the day. He then drives to various stores to collect perishable donations such as deli salads and breads.
