Alice “Sis” Hyer, 90, of Keansburg, passed away Thursday, September 22 peacefully at Bayside Manor. She was born in South Amboy on October 30, 1925 and was a lifelong resident of “her beloved Keansburg.” She was the youngest of three Crear children, predeceased by her brothers, Clifford (1978) and Alan (2002). Alice grew up at many of her family’s businesses in town, her favorite being the pool where she swam competitively and met many famous swimmers and athletes that patronized the Jersey Shore.

Alice took her only job at the age of 14 as a phone operator on Main Street. She continued to work for Bell Tell for 50 years. She was a lifelong member of J.U.T. (Just Us Twelve), a group of friends that met for over 70 years and had been recognized by the newspaper many times. They traveled to New York shows together, visited one another’s homes once a month for dinner and comforted one another in times of joy and sadness.

Alice grew up attending Keansburg First United Methodist Church and continued her entire life. She was a member of many committees and partook in every function the church offered. It was there that she met and later married Clarence Hyer in 1964. Alice and Connie were icons of the community and now are once again joined together in their beloved town.

Alice will be forever missed by her beloved stepdaughter, Connie Engelmann and her husband Bob; her granddaughters, Chrissi Hixenbaugh and her husband Mike, and Melissa Lynch and her husband Brian; her nephews, Clifford “Kip” Crear and Sean Reader; a niece, Debbie Reader and her husband Jeff; as well as the apples of her eye – her great-grandchildren, Christopher, Cara, Sydney Kate, Aidan, Liam and Gylian Rose.

Memorial donations may be made in honor of Alice to Keansburg First United Methodist Church, Keansburg Historical Society or RAINE (Reaching All In Need Everyday) at www.rainefoundation.com.
