FREEHOLD – Police chiefs from around Monmouth County were all wet on Friday afternoon—but for a good cause.
Chiefs, representing 32 municipalities from around the county who are all part of the 42-member Monmouth County Chiefs Association, took the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge Friday afternoon, in part to show their support for a retired association member who has been diagnosed with the disease.
Conducted at the Monmouth County Police Academy, 2000 Kozloski Road, the group of officers were doing it “not only because it’s a good cause,” and to raise money for it, as Aberdeen Chief John Powers, association president, but “to show our support for Danny.”
Danny, Powers said, is retired Manasquan Police Chief Daniel Scimeca, who has been battling ALS.
Chiefs, all wearing their department uniforms, doused themselves with buckets of ice and water.
The ice donated by Ice King, Tinton Falls, according to Atlantic Highlands Chief Gerard Vasto.
