If you are going to take up yoga, you’re going to need to be flexible. If you’re looking for a new pair of yoga pants, they’re going to need to be flexible. If you are the mother of four sons, a spin class instructor and the owner of a new activewear boutique, you better be flexible.
Lisa Tave, 44, of Rumson, knows the value of being elastic and has just opened a new women’s activewear boutique called physhion at 813 River Road in Fair Haven, underneath Clementine Cycling and down the street from Booskerdoo Coffee.
As the mother of her sons Jordan, 20, Max, 17, Alec, 15, and Ben, 11, opening up the physhion boutique was ideal.
“I worked for a Fortune 500 company. With the owner, you never told him what you couldn’t do. You found a solution,” Tave said. “I love having my own business because I can put my kids first, whereas with someone else work has to come first.”
When the space underneath Clementine opened up, Tave saw an opportunity to sell her own yoga and gym bags, and selection of unique athletic clothing.
“Every person looks exactly the same at the gym and I can’t take it anymore,” said Tave. “With us, you know that there are only three or four other people walking around in what you’re wearing.”
The selling points of physhion are the bags designed by Tave herself. Made of authentic leather and coated twill, the bags have waterproof lining and include specialized compartments designed to fit anything you would ordinarily bring with you to the gym, such as a removable wet/dry pouch to store any wet bathing suits or sweaty gym clothes.
“The reason I made these bags was to meet my needs as a mom that went throughout her whole day,” Tove said of the five bag designs. “I joke because I have four sons, I say these are my four girls and now we added a fifth.”
The boutique’s other selling point is the activewear that is offered. physhion sets itself apart from other athletic clothing stores by offering brands that are hard to find in The Two River area, such as Body Language, Vimmea and NUX, among others from California and from as far away as Brazil.
While Tave described her best customer as the mom that never stops, she acknowledged that there is something at the store for any woman who has an active lifestyle.
“There’s something for everybody. Someone’s kid would be able to come in and afford to buy something,” Tave said. A grand opening with light refreshments is in the planning. Watch the physhion Facebook page for updates.
