FAIR HAVEN – While some might be lamenting the impending end of summer, others are gearing up for the latest edition of the much anticipated borough firemen’s fair.
The fair will open on Friday, Aug. 22, and end Saturday, Aug. 30. The fair will operate daily from 6 to 11 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 6 to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday. As is tradition, the fair will be closed on Sunday, Aug. 24.
The fair will take over the grounds of the 645 River Road firehouse property with games, rides and lots of food. The fair is know for its gourmet seafood offerings and sells hundreds of hot dogs and hamburgers each night in The Outback food stand.
A favorite activity for youngsters is the opportunity to take a ride on a real fire truck.
The event is a family affair for attendees and those who help run it. Many who volunteer at the fair have been doing it for years and some are second- and third-generation volunteers.
The fair traces its roots back to 1906 and members of the fire department say it is the largest firemen’s fair and second largest fair of any kind in the state.
Proceeds benefit the Fair Haven Fire Department.
