Mary Kelly, 87, of Spring Lake and formerly of North Caldwell, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, May 4 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. Born in Harrison, Mary Ellen resided in North Caldwell for many years before moving to Spring Lake in 1986. Mary Ellen was the beloved wife of husband Jack for 64 years, and the proud mother of four children.

Mary Ellen was an active volunteer at Notre Dame Parish and School in North Caldwell, where she and her family were among the first parishioners. There, she was a member of the Altar Society, Rosary Society, a lunch mother, library volunteer, member of the “Holy Rollers” bowling team, as well as a Brownie leader.

Mary Ellen was an extraordinary wife and mother, homemaker, chef, gardener, dressmaker, and caregiver. Mary Ellen and Jack were very proud that all four of their children were graduates of the University of Notre Dame, where they enjoyed many fall football weekends as well as their involvement with the Science Advisory Council.

Mary Ellen was predeceased by her parents, James E. and Helen Bennett Marion; and her brother, Joseph D. Marion. Surviving are her devoted husband of 64 years, John H. “Jack” Kelly; her beloved children and their spouses, Bob and Ellen Kelly of Fair Haven, Maureen Kelly Berkley and husband Bill of Kansas City, Missouri, Nancy Kelly Connolly and husband Frank of Medford, Massachusetts, and Patricia Kelly of New York City. She also leaves seven cherished grandchildren, Caroline, Nick, Bennett, Kate, Matthew, Jack and Nell; her dear brother, James W. Marion, and sister-in-law, Annette, of Bloomfield; her sister-in-law, Kathy Marion of Red Bank; and many nieces and nephews.
