Kids Run, Swim and Bike in Kelleher Triathlon

RUMSON – Hundreds of children crossed the finish line Sunday, June 10, in the third annual Kids Triathlon for Bob Kelleher at Victory Park in Rumson.
Children, ages 9-14, swam 150-yard swim, biked 4 miles and ran a mile. Racers, ages 8 and younger, swam 75 yards, biked 2.25 miles then ran a half mile through Rumson, finishing in Victory Park.
Patrick Daly, 14, from Pearl River, N.Y. won the older boys’ division with a time of 25:50.1. Second and third place for the boys’ division crossed the finish line within a 1-second gap. Connor Wright, 10, of Red Bank took second place with a time of a 26:05.7 and Robby Hemphill, 13, finished close on his heels with a time of 26:05.8.
The 9 and older girls’ division race was also a close one with Claudia Kelly, 10, of Little Silver winning with a time of 28:37.6. Right behind her was Claudia Satzke, 10, from Fair Haven with a time of 28:38.5.
The race was held in memory of Bob Kelleher, a Rumson resident and avid sportsman who died in 2009. Kelleher was a volunteer on the borough’s recreation commission and was a captain with the Rumson First Aid Squad and the race benefits both agencies.
