John A. Kovchok, 89, of Middletown, passed away Wednesday, January 13 at Riverview Medical Center in Red bank. He was born and raised in New York City and later lived in Sayreville and Toms River before moving to Middletown recently. John was a graduate of Stuyvesant High School, N.Y.C., N.Y., and Bowling Green State University, Bowling Green, Ohio.

He proudly served his country during World War II in the US Army. He was twice wounded on Okinawa, was the recipient of two purple hearts and survived a kamikaze strike on the hospital ship US Comfort where he was being treated.

John was a member of the VFW Post Berkley and was a communicant of St. Maximillian R.C. Church in Toms River. John was an advertising salesman, with a career spanning over 40 years, with McGraw Hill, 33 Magazine and Thomas Publishing all of New York City.

He was predeceased by his wife, Lillian A (Farrell) Kovchok; a brother, Michael; and his parents, John and Zusanna Kovchok.

John is survived by his children, Patrick F of Wellsboro, Pa., Eileen of Middletown, Maureen M. of Middletown and Edward of Bozeman of Montana; and two grandchildren, Brandon F. and Sean M. Nicolas.

Visitation and funeral home service was held on Sunday January 17 at the John E. Day Funeral Home, Red Bank.
