John “Jack” Joseph Kuhar passed away peacefully on September 11 after his courageous battle with cancer for over 20 years. He was born on December 2, 1938, in Plymouth, Pa., to John M. Kuhar and Charlotte “Agnes” Kozloski.

Jack was a dedicated mathematics teacher for 45 years: two years at Madison Township High School, 43 years at Red Bank Regional High School and adjunct professor at Brookdale Community College for 20 years. He was well respected by students and staff.

Jack was an active member of St. James Roman Catholic Church where he faithfully served as an extraordinary minister of the Eucharist to Riverview Medical Center for 34 years and was a member of the St. Vincent dePaul Society which assists the poor with financial and food needs. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 3187 for over 50 years.

In his youth, Jack played on the Plymouth High School championship basketball team and was a member of the 109th Field Ar tiller y of the PA National Guard in Kingston, Pa. He graduated from Monmouth College with a bachelor of science in mathematics and earned two masters’ degrees: an Ed.M in administration and supervision from Rutgers University and a MS in teaching mathematics from Fordham University.

Jack was a diligent worker and held many summer jobs while he was a teacher such as painter, mover, limousine driver, director of Little Silver Parks and Recreation Summer Camp, Red Bank Regional Summer School Principal and served as a reader for the Advanced Placement Math Program at ETS in Princeton. While he taught at Red Bank Regional he coached the boys’ basketball and soccer teams.

Jack took up golf after his knee replacement surgeries in 2002 and by 2010. He won two Men’s C Flight league championships at Shark River Golf Course. His passion for the sport drove him to even play in the senior winter league until 2015.

He loved life and made sure to make everyone laugh especially the nurses and doctors who cared for him during his various cancer treatments. He was a lifelong devoted Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles Phanatic.

Jack lost his dear sister, Charlotte Anne Kuhar Dudley, in 2013 at the age of 85.

He is survived by his adoring wife of 50 years, Susan Knake Kuhar; his daughter, Suzanne Kuhar Verzilli and her husband Andrew of Lansdale, Pa.; his sons, Robert John Kuhar and Elaine Jadacki of Baltimore, Md.. and John “Jack” Kuhar and wife Elise of Havertown, Pa. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Robert Thomas Dudley of Fair Haven; his cousin, Alice of Plymouth, Pa.; and his six loving grandchildren, Max, Andrew, Michaela and Dominic Verzilli of Lansdale, Pa., and Leah and Anna Kuhar of Havertown, Pa.

Visitation will be held at John E. Day Funeral Home, Red Bank, on Thursday, September 17 from 4 to 7 p.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial to be held on Friday, September, 18 at 10 a.m. at St. James Roman Catholic Church, 94 Broad Street, Red Bank.
