Genevieve Maniscalco, 89, of Middletown, died on Thursday, March 24. She was born in 1926 in Brooklyn, New York. She was one of a family of eight children, a twin sister and an additional five sisters and one brother. Genevieve married Salvatore Messana on April 13, 1952. Sadly, he passed away 13 years later at the age of 37. She raised her two children on her own until she married the late Charles Maniscalco in 1972.
Genevieve was a New York City public school secretar y for many years before moving to New Jersey in 1987 with her daughter Adelaide, son-in-law Frank and their children.
She was active in St. Catherine’s Church 50+ Club and a member of the Red Hats. Genevieve spent the last two-and-a-half years of her life at Arbor Terrace Middletown enjoying her days with her dear friend Beverly. Genevieve is survived by her children and their spouses, Jerry and Valerie Messana, Adelaide and Frank Reda, and Marianne and John Murphy.
Her most prized possessions and greatest joy in her life were her grandchildren, Christopher Messana, the late JJ Messana, Brenna Messana, Matthew Reda and his wife Ashley, Amanda Reda, Alyssa Miranda and Frank Miranda.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 31 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Thompson Memorial Home, 310 Broad St., Red Bank. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, April 1 at 9:15 a.m. at St. Catherine’s R.C. Church in Holmdel. Interment will follow at St. Charles Cemetery in Long Island. Memorial donations may be made to the Friends of JJ, in honor of Grandma Gen, at P.O. Box 163, Lincroft, NJ 07738.
