MDM&C Law Firm Establishes Monmouth County Office

TINTON FALLS – It was several years in making but the New Jersey law firm with the largest number of attorneys has located an office in Monmouth County.
“We’ve thought about moving to Monmouth County for a long time,” said Edward B. Deutsch, the managing partner of McElroy, Deutsch, Mulvaney & Carpenter, LLP (MDM&C). “We have a number of clients in the county and we are here in the counts quite often. We also have a number of very talented lawyers who live here in Monmouth County.
“This opportunity arose and it was very attractive for us. It has worked out very well,” he said. “We made a concerted effort to find the right spot with the right people.”
The firm’s main office is located in Morristown and now has four New Jersey offices.
“Although we are New Jersey-based, we have a regional footprint with a physical presence in seven states. The new Monmouth office is our 11th location,” Deutsch said.
The office, which opened last month, is initially being staffed with six or seven lawyers, including retired state Superior Court judge and former presiding and assignment judge of the Monmouth County Vicinage, Lawrence Lawson, and retired Superior Court judge and former presiding judge of the General Equity and Civil Divisions of the Monmouth County Vicinage, Thomas W. Cavanagh, Jr. Both judges are focusing their practices on mediations and arbitrations.
The office of Ronald J. Riccio, the former dean of the Seton Hall University School of Law who is a current professor there, also is located in Tinton Falls.
“Our firm’s value proposition is based on helping clients to achieve cost-effective legal solutions and, increasingly, that can mean avoiding litigation altogether through mediation and arbitration,” he said. Over the past year, we’ve also brought on board three other former judges to strengthen the firm’s Alternative Despite Resolution capabilities.”
The legal services MDM&C will provide to clients in the new location will not be limited to the practice areas of the lawyers based there. “It will be a full-service office,” he said
“Monmouth and Ocean County clients can leverage our firm’s full range of legal services, including municipal and local government, litigation, labor and employment, health care, real estate, insurance, environmental, fidelity and surety, construction, corporate transactions, white-collar crime and corporate compliance,” Deutsch said.
“We don’t think or behave like a large law firm,” he said. “This means that we provide a level of client service that’s highly personalized, and more akin to a small firm experience. Secondly, it means that our pricing model is more attractive and flexible than many large law firms. Most importantly, we don’t expect our clients to make any compromises, in terms of professional expertise and experience, in exchange for either of those benefits.”
Deutsch expects the Monmouth County office to grow “with the talent that is there.”
He said that, “growth for its own sake is not part of our business model. For the short term, our goal is to build our relationships and reputation in Monmouth and Ocean counties.
“As the new kid in the neighborhood, we’re eager to demonstrate what we’re capable of,” Deutsch said.
MDM&C held an open house and ribbon cutting at the new office on Tuesday, Sept. 23.
